Poe’s portrait

A while ago, Kitten and I were at her parents’ house for dinner and the subject of their Edgar Allan Poe portrait came up. The story goes that back in 1929, Kitten’s grandfather saw it in pawn shop near the camera store her worked at, in Baltimore. Grandfather liked the portrait so much that he saved his money and eventually bought it. It has been in the family ever since. It’s a little crackled, but I guess that happens.

Anyway, we decided to do some sleuthing on the web, but found very little info. It seems that Poe did not pose for very many portraits, so this is probably someone’s painting of Poe, based on some other portrait.

Nice little story for a portrait that’s about a hundred years old.
